I headed north towards Anchorage today. I stopped at the Bird Creek Trail parking lot and walked up the path to a lookout area overlooking Turnagain Arm area. It was a beautiful day and I enjoyed the sunshine. When I came down from the lookout, I continued down to the Bird River. It was cooler there which was refreshing. I took a lot of pictures with my phone and my camera.
Then I continued north to the waterfall. It is a small waterfall but still beautiful. A dog came over to the water and plopped down in it to cool off. I’m sure the cold water felt good with the heavy coat of fur it had.
From there I continued to Potter Marsh. The people who live all over the hillside get their mail at the parking lot. There were hundreds of mailboxes here. From there, I backtracked a bit to see the old snowblower locomotive. The blades were huge, as one might expect, to clear the snow from the tracks.
Then I headed into Anchorage. I went to Best Buy to return the cable I purchased a couple days ago because it didn’t work like it should with my laptop. Then I headed over to the Cathedral for mass.
The Cathedral is near the airport. It is a Spanish style, which is to be expected with the name of Our Lady of Guadalupe Cathedral but seems out of place in Alaska.
The music from the mass were songs that we sang in the choir at St Mary of the Valley in Monroe and at St Michael’s in Snohomish Washington. It brought back a lot of great memories. After mass I drove back to Bird Creek Campground and fixed dinner.
I have been hungry for tuna salad so I opened a can of tuna and prepared it. There is even some left over for another day. Evening prayers, a rosary and it’s time for bed before I know it. I get fooled by how light it is out so late in the evening. It’s easy to keep on doing things because it doesn’t seem that late. I am trying to watch the time and turn in earlier to keep a more reasonable schedule.
